Has social media been a net positive or a net negative for our society? Why?
Up until Myspace it was a positive. But now its nothing but negative. I love getting news as it happens, but there are other options for that.
From a Stoic perspective, the impact of social media on our society is a complex issue that depends on how we use it and how it affects our relationship with ourselves and others.
On the one hand, social media has the potential to be a force for good, allowing people to connect with others across great distances and to share information and ideas in new and innovative ways. It can provide a platform for social and political activism, and can facilitate the spread of knowledge and education to a wide audience.
On the other hand, social media can also be a source of distraction, addiction, and conflict. It can promote shallow, superficial relationships, and can exacerbate feelings of loneliness, anxiety, and depression. It can also be a breeding ground for misinformation, polarization, and online harassment.
