Why is beauty associated with morality?

As a Stoic philosopher, I would say that beauty is often associated with morality because it is seen as a reflection of the natural order and harmony of the universe. In Stoic philosophy, the universe is seen as a rational and orderly whole, and human beings are seen as part of that natural order.

Beauty, in this sense, is not simply a matter of aesthetic pleasure, but is rather a reflection of the inherent order and goodness of the universe. Moral virtue, in turn, is seen as a reflection of that same order and goodness, as it involves living in accordance with the rational and natural order of the universe.

Furthermore, in Stoic philosophy, there is a strong emphasis on cultivating a sense of inner harmony and balance. This involves developing virtues such as wisdom, courage, and justice, as well as cultivating a sense of beauty and aesthetic appreciation. By cultivating a sense of inner harmony and balance, we are able to live in accordance with the natural order of the universe and lead a virtuous life.
